Every summer a steady stream of guests lands at Dalaman and flies home from Antalya, or the reverse. Sometimes it is a deliberate multi-centre holiday, sometimes it is what the cheap flights allowed, and occasionally it is a missed connection that has to be rescued. Whichever it is, the question is the same: is it sensible to drive 240 kilometres between two airports, and what does it involve?
The route: 240 km and about 3 hours 20
There are two ways to cross. The coastal D400 through Kaş, Demre and Finike is one of the most beautiful roads in the Mediterranean, but it winds through mountains and villages for most of its length and adds well over an hour. The inland route, joining the D350 and running via Korkuteli, is the one drivers actually use: 240 kilometres, roughly three hours and twenty minutes in normal conditions.
That figure holds up well in practice. Unlike the resort roads, this route has very little seasonal traffic — the congestion on the Turkish coast is concentrated around the towns, not the connecting highways. Allow an extra half hour on a summer Saturday, when the changeover traffic around Fethiye and Antalya thickens.
Why you cannot simply fly between them
The obvious question is why not take a domestic flight. The answer is that no airline runs a regular scheduled service between them. Dalaman and Antalya are both leisure airports serving the same coastline, so the carriers see no market in linking them; the odd seasonal charter aside, flying means routing through Istanbul.
Once you add the connection, the arithmetic collapses. Two hours at Dalaman before departure, an hour or more in the air, a connection in Istanbul that is rarely under ninety minutes, then a second flight and a second baggage reclaim. Six to eight hours door to door is normal, against three and a half in a car that collects you at one terminal and drops you at the other. The drive also carries your luggage without a weight limit and does not care if you have a pushchair, golf clubs or a surfboard.
Who actually books this transfer
Three groups, mostly. The largest is the multi-centre holiday: a week in Fethiye or Kalkan followed by a week in Side or Belek, with an open-jaw booking that lands at one airport and departs from the other. The second is guests whose return flight was moved by the airline to the other airport — more common than it should be with charter schedules.
The third, and the one where the transfer earns its keep, is the rescue job. A missed connection, a cancelled domestic leg, a family that has to be at Antalya by a fixed check-in time and cannot risk waiting for the next available seat. A car that leaves when you say so is worth a great deal on that kind of morning.

What it costs, and how the price is set
Long routes are where the difference between a metered taxi and a fixed transfer fare becomes stark. A taxi will quote on the day, on the meter, with the driver also absorbing the cost of returning empty — and for a 240 kilometre run in high season that number moves around a great deal.
A private transfer on this route is quoted as a fixed fare before you book, based on the distance and the vehicle you need. It does not change if your flight lands late, if passport control takes an hour, or if the traffic around Antalya is heavier than usual. For a group with luggage, splitting one fixed fare across four to eight people usually lands close to what a single set of domestic flight tickets would have cost — without the connection.
Practical notes for the day
Book against your flight number rather than a clock time. We track the inbound and adjust the pickup automatically, which matters more on this route than most: if you are catching a departure at the other end, an hour lost at the start is an hour you cannot recover.
Build in a margin at the Antalya end. Three and a half hours of driving plus the airport's own check-in queues means leaving the coast four and a half to five hours before departure for an international flight. Ask for a comfort stop — there are good service areas around Korkuteli — and, if you are travelling with children, say so when booking so the right seats are fitted before the car arrives.
