Sabiha Gökçen to Taksim: Havabus vs Taxi vs Metro vs Private Transfer

Getting from Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) to Taksim means crossing the Bosphorus: the distance is about 45 km and the journey time depends heavily on bridge traffic. You have four options: the Havabus shuttle (~€4–5, 85–100 min), a metered taxi (~€35–50, 60–90 min), the metro M4 + Marmaray/M2 combination (~€1–2.5, 100–120 min) and a fixed-price private transfer (from ~€45). This guide compares all four on price, time and comfort in a single table.

SAW → Taksim comparison table (2026, approx.)

The four options at a glance:

| Option | Price (approx.) | Time | Changes | Best for | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Havabus | ~€4–5 (per person) | 85–100 min | None | Solo travellers, light luggage | | Taxi | ~€35–50 (per vehicle) | 60–90 min | None | Travellers in a hurry | | Metro M4 + Marmaray + M2 | ~€1–2.5 (per person) | 100–120 min | 2–3 | Tightest budgets | | Private transfer | from ~€45 (per vehicle) | 60–90 min | None | Families, night arrivals |

Havabus and metro are priced per person; taxi and private transfer per vehicle. For a group of 3–4 the per-head cost of a private transfer approaches a Havabus ticket — and it goes door to door.

Havabus: the well-known classic

Havabus shuttles leave from outside SAW international arrivals and stop near the Point Hotel in Taksim. The ticket costs the lira equivalent of ~€4–5, paid on board; departures run roughly every 30 minutes through the day. In normal traffic the trip takes 85–100 minutes — in the evening rush the bridge crossing can push it well past two hours.

From the drop-off you still need to walk or take a short taxi to your hotel; with suitcases, the hilly last stretch to Cihangir or Galata hotels is a workout. For solo travellers with light luggage, Havabus remains the best value-for-money option.

The metro M4 combination and taxis

The cheapest route is by rail: take the M4 metro from the airport to Kadıköy (~45 min), switch to the Marmaray to Sirkeci, then continue towards Taksim by T1 tram or M2. The whole journey costs ~€1–2.5 with an Istanbulkart and takes 100–120 minutes including changes. A more scenic alternative is the ferry from Kadıköy to Karaköy — slower, but a proper Istanbul experience.

A taxi is the fastest choice: roughly €35–50 on the meter (paid in lira) in 60–90 minutes. Bridge tolls are added to the fare, and evening traffic stretches the time. The airport taxi queue can reach 20–30 minutes when several flights land together.

Private transfer: fixed price, door to door

A fixed-price private transfer starts at ~€45: your driver waits in arrivals with a name board, tracks your flight live and waits free of charge after a delay. The price is confirmed in euros at booking, with bridge tolls and luggage included. Current prices and online booking: /en/transfers/sabiha-gokcen-taksim-transfer.

Staying on the Asian side? The Kadıköy run is shorter: /en/transfers/sabiha-gokcen-kadikoy-transfer. For hotels on the historic peninsula, see /en/transfers/sabiha-gokcen-sultanahmet-transfer. On all three routes child seats are free and every vehicle is air-conditioned, licensed and insured.

Betrouwbaar en netjes

Fijne ervaring van begin tot eind. Onze vlucht landde laat in de avond, maar de chauffeur wachtte geduldig. De auto was schoon en de rit naar Göcek verliep vlot en veilig. Prettige communicatie vooraf. Zeker weer boeken.

Guter Service, kleine Wartezeit

Kesinlikle tavsiye ederim.
