Ercan Airport (ECN) to Famagusta (Gazimağusa) is 54 km and about 44 minutes, İskele and Long Beach are 47 km and about 40 minutes away, and the Bafra hotel zone is 71 km and about 64 minutes. North Cyprus's east coast offers three different kinds of holiday: the walled historic city of Famagusta, the fast-growing residential coast of İskele, and Bafra, where the all-inclusive casino resorts Kaya Artemis, Noah's Ark, Concorde and Limak stand side by side on one bay. This 2026 guide gives hotel-by-hotel distances from the airport, explains the road, shows where the Kıbhas bus and airport taxis do and do not help, covers hiring a car on the left, and sets out GET4S's fixed-price private transfer at €75 for Famagusta and İskele and €100 for Bafra, with a note for anyone continuing to the Karpaz peninsula.
How far is Ercan Airport from Famagusta, İskele and Bafra, and how long does it take?
From Ercan Airport it is 54 km and about 44 minutes to Famagusta centre, 47 km and about 40 minutes to İskele, and 71 km and about 64 minutes to Bafra. It may seem odd that İskele is closer than Famagusta: the coast road turns north before the city, so İskele and Long Beach save a few kilometres. Bafra lies a further 25 km or so beyond İskele in the direction of the Karpaz peninsula.
| Zone | Typical places | Distance | Time (normal traffic) | GET4S transfer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Famagusta | Walled city, Varosha edge, Salamis road | 54 km | ~44 min | €75 |
| İskele / Long Beach | Long Beach, Boğaz, İskele centre | 47 km | ~40 min | €75 |
| Bafra hotel zone | Kaya Artemis, Noah's Ark, Concorde, Limak | 71 km | ~64 min | €100 |
The times are 2026 measurements and assume normal traffic. Famagusta is a university city, so the approach slows at the start of term and on weekend evenings; on the Bafra road there is almost no traffic at all, and distance is the only thing that adds time. At night and early in the morning all three routes can come in under the times in the table.
Hotel by hotel: how far are Kaya Artemis, Noah's Ark and Salamis Bay Conti from the airport?
If you searched for the distance from Ercan Airport to Kaya Artemis, the answer is this: every hotel in the Bafra zone is roughly 70-75 km and 65-70 minutes from the airport, because they all line a strip of a few kilometres on the same bay. Salamis Bay Conti, north of Famagusta, is about 55 km away, Arkın Palm Beach on the Varosha side about 55 km, and the residential resorts on İskele Long Beach 47-50 km. The figures below are approximations based on route distance and can shift by a few kilometres depending on the hotel entrance.
| Hotel | Area | Distance from airport | Time | GET4S transfer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kaya Artemis Resort & Casino | Bafra | ~70-75 km | ~65-70 min | €100 |
| Noah's Ark Deluxe Hotel | Bafra | ~70-75 km | ~65-70 min | €100 |
| Concorde Luxury Resort | Bafra | ~70-75 km | ~65-70 min | €100 |
| Limak Cyprus Deluxe | Bafra | ~70-75 km | ~65-70 min | €100 |
| Salamis Bay Conti | Famagusta (Salamis) | ~55 km | ~45 min | €75 |
| Arkın Palm Beach | Famagusta (Varosha) | ~55 km | ~45 min | €75 |
| Caesar Resort, Grand Sapphire | İskele Long Beach | ~47-50 km | ~40-45 min | €75 |
The Bafra zone is a purpose-built tourism area: outside the hotels there are few shops and restaurants, most of the holiday is spent inside the resort, and for most guests the airport transfer is the only long journey of the week. In Famagusta and İskele, by contrast, town life, restaurants and excursions such as the ancient city of Salamis are within a few kilometres of the hotel.
The route: Nicosia-Famagusta highway and the turn for the coast
The road east from Ercan is simple and flat. The airport link road joins the Nicosia-Famagusta highway, a dual carriageway across the Mesaoria plain with no mountain pass and, unlike the Kyrenia direction, hardly a bend. For Famagusta you follow the highway to the city entrance; hotels on the Varosha side such as Arkın Palm Beach are reached through the south of the city, and Salamis Bay Conti along the Salamis coast road to the north.
For İskele and Bafra you leave the highway before Famagusta and head north towards Dörtyol and İskele. İskele centre and Long Beach come at the 47 km mark; for Bafra the same coast road continues towards the Karpaz, passing the fishing village of Boğaz and the turn for Kantara Castle before reaching the Bafra hotel zone roughly 25 km later. Street lighting is sparse along the way, so for anyone driving themselves at night the road is easy but dark; GET4S drivers cover this route every day.
Kıbhas bus: yes to Famagusta, no to the İskele and Bafra hotels
The Kıbhas airport buses also run between Ercan and Famagusta. They leave around flight arrivals and departures rather than to a fixed timetable, the fare is paid in Turkish lira and passengers are dropped at the central stop in Famagusta; check Kıbhas's own channels for the current fare and times, because both change during the year. For a traveller with light luggage staying in Famagusta centre or inside the walls it is a sensible, cheap option.
The bus does not, however, go to the İskele, Long Beach or Bafra hotels. Anyone trying to reach Kaya Artemis or Noah's Ark by bus has to get off in Famagusta and take a taxi for another 25-30 km, which pushes the total journey towards two hours and adds a second fare. Some Bafra resorts run their own paid shuttles, so it is worth asking your hotel when you book. For families and couples heading to this coast, public transport is not a practical option; the real comparison is between a taxi and a fixed-price transfer.
Taxi from Ercan Airport to Famagusta and Bafra: what does it cost?
Airport taxis at the terminal exit reach Famagusta in about 45 minutes and Bafra in a little over an hour. Taxis in North Cyprus work to a rank tariff rather than a meter: the fare is quoted in Turkish lira, rises in steps with distance, and a higher night tariff may apply. We do not print a figure, because the tariff depends on the rank, the hour and the exchange rate. The honest summary: for Famagusta a taxi usually comes close to or above the fixed €75 transfer, and for the 71 km to Bafra it is quite likely to exceed the fixed €100.
If you take a taxi, name your hotel and agree the fare in Turkish lira before setting off, ask whether card payment is possible, and use the official rank outside rather than anyone approaching you inside the terminal. On long routes like Bafra the driver returns empty, so a fare above the fixed transfer price is no surprise; booking the return transfer in advance removes that uncertainty as well.
Hiring a car: driving on the left, a long straight road and whether a car pays off in Bafra
North Cyprus drives on the left with right-hand-drive cars, and hire cars carry red plates. The road to the east coast has no mountain pass, so it is easier than the Kyrenia direction, but roundabouts and the unlit coast road at night still make the first day demanding. There are hire desks at the airport and you should book ahead for summer; cars hired in the north generally cannot be taken into the Republic of Cyprus.
Whether a car is worth it depends on where you stay. In Famagusta and İskele a car earns its keep for the ancient city of Salamis, Kantara Castle, the Karpaz peninsula and Golden Beach. In an all-inclusive resort in Bafra the car will most likely sit in the car park all week; in that case it is more economical to take a fixed-price transfer for the airport leg and hire a car for a single day, or book a hotel excursion, for the Karpaz trip.
Private transfer: Famagusta and İskele at a fixed €75, Bafra at a fixed €100
GET4S's private transfers from Ercan Airport to the east coast are fixed per vehicle: Famagusta €75, İskele and Long Beach €75, and the Bafra hotel zone €100. The vehicle is a VIP Mercedes Vito for 6 passengers and 6 cases; the price is per vehicle rather than per person, there is no night or season surcharge, and a 2 am landing bound for Kaya Artemis is still €100. For smaller parties a Luxury Sedan is priced on request over WhatsApp.
On every transfer the driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board, your flight is tracked live with 60 minutes of free waiting if it is delayed, and you are dropped at the hotel door. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup, and you can pay online by card or in cash to the driver in EUR, USD, GBP or Turkish lira. GET4S is a Turkish agency licensed under TÜRSAB 14225. Booking at www.get4s.com/en/booking takes a few minutes with your flight number, hotel name and passenger count; just type the hotel name and the system matches the address to the right zone. Continuing to the Karpaz, and notes for the journey back
Bafra is the gateway to the Karpaz peninsula: from Bafra to Dipkarpaz and Golden Beach is 40-60 km depending on your hotel and takes about an hour. If you are going straight from Ercan to a boutique hotel in the Karpaz or to Yeni Erenköy, that route has no fixed tariff; the price is given on request over WhatsApp and the drive from the airport takes around two hours. Kantara Castle, a short detour off the İskele-Bafra road, makes a good stop on the way back.
For the return transfer, plan to reach the airport at least two hours before departure: allow 64 minutes from Bafra, 44 from Famagusta and 40 from İskele, plus a margin for paying and luggage. On a return booking both directions are charged at the same fixed price, and the driver's name and vehicle plate for the return leg appear on your booking confirmation.
